Atmospheric
This superb southern India tour takes you to some of the best places in northern Kerala, Karnataki and Tamil Nadu and Flameback Lodge must be one of the most atmospheric places I have encountered in many years of travel.
This trip packs in great deal of historic and scenic interest both in Beijing and out in the country. The walks on the Great Wall were surprisingly varied and it was fascinating to see China transforming, seemingly before our eyes. The extension to Xi'an was also excellent - we saw so much in just two days but didn't feel rushed.
Everything was superb; the guide went out of his way to see that every little matter was dealt with. Everything in the itinerary went without any hitches or delays. Thank you Mountain Kingdoms it was all wonderful.
We were looked after and pampered, yet independent enough to enjoy the challenges and the outdoor life. The itinerary was perfect - a mix of tents and gers, good walking distances, a crew that made us feel one of the family - as the nomadic families did do - horse and camel riding and varying landscapes.
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip overall, especially the trek, and would heartily recommend it to others. We particularly appreciated the feeling of remoteness and space in Mongolia.
The route was very well planned and I particularly appreciated the train journey from Samarkand to Tashkent. This was very evocative of the silk route going across the huge expanse of deserted steppe and seeing the small isolated villages.
What I appreciate most about Mountain Kingdoms is the small numbers. It means smaller, more characterful hotels, better and quicker transport and eating in a small party is so much more pleasant.
The itinerary, sights and even the chosen hotels were the highlights of the trip. Exploring Khiva, Bukhara and old Samarkand were really enjoyable days.
This was an excellent tour - friendly participants, very good guide and excellent value for money. What more could one ask for!

Stunning countryside
All of it was perfect. So well organised. A great balance between basic living in the homestays and the luxury of a hot shower and toilet with a seat in hotels and lodges. The boat rides across Inle lake came as an unexpected surprise. The trekking went through stunning and varied countryside. Nyi Nyi the guide was awesome. Outstanding subject knowledge, sense of humour, very very kind and caring, astute to the individual needs of the people in the group. Hugely professional and conscientious. A true Buddhist. Thank you very much for providing a trip to the remote world in Chin.
